Frequently Asked Questions
How do I store my treats?

Storing dehydrated dog snacks properly is key to maintaining their freshness. These are some tips to keep in mind.
Cool & Dry location: Store the snacks in a spot that you know will not be exposed to moisture and is not in direct sunlight.

If your canine love has drooled on the treats make sure they gobble up that snack. We do not recommend placing wet treats back with the dry snacks.
Sealed is the key to happiness: If they are taken out of the original packaging, you may want to place your treats in an airtight container like a sealed jar, vacuum sealed bag, or resealable plastic bag.
Is it still good? Good!: Always check freshness. Please, before giving any snacks to your pups make certain that the treats show zero signs of spoilage. Excess moisture and/or heat can cause the snacks to spoil faster than expected.
If there are any signs of mold, discoloration, or the smell is off, discard the treats immediately. We want your family to be happy and healthy.
Dehydrated meats should be consumed within a month for optimal taste.
Why should you choose rabbit and duck treats?
Sometimes allergies become an issue. More than one of our dogs have displayed major reactions to chicken and our mother’s Rottweiler is diagnosed with severe IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease). In our journey to ensure they have the food and treats they deserve, we began to explore different types of meat. What we found is that dogs are not as likely to have an allergic reaction to rabbit or duck.
Here are our reasons for selecting rabbit:

Natural Chew: Dehydrated rabbit feet, heads, and ears provide a natural, crunchy chew that helps satisfy your dog's chewing instincts. This can keep them engaged and mentally stimulated, reducing the likelihood of destructive behavior.

Dental Health: Chewing on rabbit fur and bones can help clean your dog’s teeth by reducing plaque and tartar buildup. The texture of the ears acts as a natural toothbrush, promoting better oral hygiene.

Hypoallergenic: Rabbit meat is often considered hypoallergenic, making them an excellent treat option for dogs with food sensitivities or allergies.

Low-Fat, High-Protein: Rabbit is typically low in fat and high in protein, providing a healthy treat option.

Rich in Nutrients: They contain beneficial nutrients such as collagen, elastin, and calcium, which support joint health, skin, and coat condition.

Digestible: Dehydrated rabbit is easy for most dogs to digest, making them a safe treat for dogs of all sizes and ages.

Natural Source of Fiber: The fur on rabbit ears can act as a natural source of fiber, which may aid in digestion and support a healthy gut.

Feeding your dog dehydrated duck heads can be beneficial for several reasons as well:

Nutrient-Rich: Duck heads are packed with essential nutrients like protein, calcium, and phosphorus. These nutrients support your dog’s bone health, muscle development, and overall vitality.

Dental Health: Chewing on dehydrated duck heads helps clean your dog’s teeth by reducing plaque and tartar buildup. The crunching action acts like a natural toothbrush, promoting better oral hygiene.

Mental Stimulation: Duck heads provide a challenging and engaging chew, which can keep your dog mentally stimulated. This can be especially useful for reducing boredom.

Natural Source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin: The cartilage in duck heads contains glucosamine and chondroitin, which support joint health and mobility, especially in older dogs or those prone to joint issues.

Digestibility: Duck heads are highly digestible and provide a good source of natural fiber from the bones, which can aid in digestion.

Hypoallergenic: Duck is a novel protein for many dogs, making it a good option for those with food sensitivities or allergies to more common proteins like chicken or beef. HOWEVER, if you have reason to suspect that your dog is sensitive to poultry overall, we recommend rabbit as an alternative.

Supports Raw or Natural Diets: Duck heads are a popular treat for dogs on raw or natural diets, providing a balanced ratio of meat, bone, and cartilage that mimics what dogs would eat in the wild.

Enrichment: Offering whole prey items like duck heads can mimic natural feeding behaviors, providing both physical and mental enrichment for your dog.

Overall, our dehydrated meat selection is a delicious, natural treat that can support your dog’s health in multiple ways, from dental care to joint support, while also providing mental stimulation and enrichment.
My dog is playing with the treat! Does that mean they don't like it?

Nope! Sometimes our fuzzy loves are not certain what we are giving them. It takes them a moment to determine if what they have is food or a toy. Before having dehydrated snacks our dogs learn they must distinguish between food and objects to play with. Thankfully, a lot of them grow out of destroying everything in sight with their vicious little puppy teeth.

Now you've given them something new! Once they realize it is meat they usually chew it up within minutes.

Can I leave my dog alone with their snacks?

Elixir of life Snacks are all natural treats that may contain fur, bones, feathers, beaks and variety of parts specific to the animal it came from. We recommend that you keep an eye on your pets when they chew any snack. We've all known that dog that swallows everything in one gulp if someone isn't watching them. We'd like everyone to remain safe.
